Authorities in the coastal city of Alexandria are investigating a chilling mass casualty event after a 20-year-old man allegedly murdered his mother and five younger siblings inside their family home in the Bashayer El-Kheir district.
Details of the massacre
Security forces responded to a frantic call from residents in the social housing project, where they discovered a gruesome scene. Preliminary investigations reveal the victims included the suspect’s mother and five siblings—three boys and two girls—all of whom were under the age of 18.
The motive for the killings remains unknown, and forensic teams have cordoned off the residence to gather evidence.
Attempted suicide and arrest
Following the attack, the suspect reportedly attempted to take his own life by jumping from the top of the apartment building. However, neighbors and bystanders intervened, restraining the young man until police arrived on the scene.
“The community is in complete shock,” said one local resident. “To see a family wiped out in an instant by one of their own is beyond comprehension.”
Legal proceedings
The suspect is currently in police custody and is being interrogated by the Public Prosecution to determine his mental state and the circumstances leading up to the violence. A formal case file has been opened, and the bodies have been transported to the morgue for autopsies.
The Bashayer El-Kheir development, usually known as a flagship urban renewal project, remains under heavy security presence as the investigation continues.
