8 IEDs defused, roadside bomb hits police vehicle in N.Sinai

Eight IEDs planted by unknown perpetrators on the Arish-Rafah and Sheikh Zuweid-al-Goura highways in North Sinai were found on Tuesday by the army. According to security sources, four of the devices were detonated safely, while four others were defused.

Earlier on Tuesday, a roadside bomb exploded, hitting an armoured police vehicle in Arish, but no one was injured by the blast.

In a related context, the military said it had killed five suspected militants and arrested eleven others, during raids in the restive peninsula.

North Sinai has witnessed repeated attacks against Egyptian security forces since the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi in 2013. Since 2013, the attacks have left at least 700 soldiers dead. Most of the attacks have been claimed by an Islamic State affiliate, the Sinai Province.
