After a year and a half of deliberations, the Administrative Court on Tuesday ordered that the "case of the Imbaba Airport" be referred back to the Contracts and Compensations Court–its original judicial constituency–for reconsideration.
The case originally dates back to 2007, when residents of Giza’s Imbaba district filed a lawsuit against Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif and Housing Minister Ahmed Maghrebi, demanding compensation for their eviction from the area around the old airport. The evictions had been carried out within the context of a government plan to "develop" the district.
By doing so, the court has essentially brought the dispute back to square one.
