Nour Party Spokesperson Nader Bakkar said Tuesday that the party was launching a tourism promotion campaign for Egypt.
In a press conference aired on Al Jazeera Mubasher Misr, Bakkar said that the Salafi party was calling on Egyptians to promote local tourism by visiting archaeological and other tourist sites.
Bakkar added that the initiative would require support from different ministries, particularly the Ministry of Civil Aviation, saying that internal flight tickets would need to be reduced.
During the press conference, Bakkar also said that all were welcome to take part in the initiative, regardless of current political divisions.
Tourism in Egypt has been hit hard by ongoing political instability since the 2011 revolution. Statements by Islamists calling for a ban on alcohol and dress codes at beaches have also spooked the tourism industry, though no group has formally attempted to pass such regulations yet.
