Interior Minister: Strict security preventing major issues on second day of voting

Interior Minister Major General Mohamed Ibrahim told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the second day of voting in the referendum on the constitutional draft was going smoothly thanks to security efforts.
 
Ibrahim said that durings inspections of some polling stations in Heliopolis on Wednesday, no violations or Brotherhood groups had interfered with voting on the second day, adding that strict measures will be taken against whoever hinders the voting process.
 
He also said that the ministry will provide more troops to confront any violence that aims to hamper the referendum. He stressed his clear instructions of firing live ammunition anyone who tries to manipulate the ballot boxes or storm police stations or prisons.
 
Ibrahim also called on the Muslim Brotherhood to engage within the society again and avoid violence.
 
Total number of eligible voters on referendum is estimated at 52,742,139. Voting should take place at 30,317 subcommittees throughout 13,867 polling stations with 13,867 judges supervising the process. Voting starts from 9am to 9pm on 14 and 15 January.
 
Expatriates will cast their ballots at 84 polling stations.
