257 Muslim Brotherhood members sent to trial

Head of East Alexandria prosecution Mohamed Salah sent 257 Muslim Brotherhood members to a misdemeanor court on charges of committing acts of violence in different areas.

At least 112 defendants out of 257 were referred to trial in absentia.

They were charged with illegal assembly, thuggery, possessing bladed weapons and sabotage.

Security forces have stepped up their arrests of Brotherhood protesters as well as activists critical of government policies. Many of those arrested claim they were merely rounded up and arrested randomly as they passed by the scene of the incident. Those arrested have all been blanketed with similar charges.
