The army killed a senior extremist leader in Sinai on Friday, according to its spokesperson Ahmed Mohamed Ali.
Special forces from the Second Field Army fatally shot Nour al-Hamedein early Friday, who fired at the forces as soon as they tried to stop him in Sheikh Zuwayed, North Sinai.
“Hamedein was one of the most outstanding extremist elements in Sheikh Zuwayed,” Ali said, noting that he was related to another terrorist leader who was killed in army operations last November.
Egyptian army and police have been struggling to confront armed bloody attacks by extremist groups in the peninsula since the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsy.
