Pope Tawadros II is flying to Helsinki on Saturday evening for a two-day pastoral visit in response to an invitation from the Lutheran Church in Finland, after which he is flying to Norway and Austria.
Egyptian ambassador to Finland Mahmoud al-Dib said this is the highest religious and political official to visit Finland, adding that Pope Tawadros II will meet with President Sauli Niinisto, members of the Finnish Parliament and the Egyptian community, as well as senior bishops of the Lutheran and Orthodox churches.
He also said the pope will hold a mass in the Helsinki Cathedral on Sunday.
Dib is giving an official welcome reception in the pope’s honor.
