The Dar al-Ifta issued a fatwa (religious edict) saying the Islamic State takes after the Al-Khawarij in their methods of slaughter, condemning their religious justifications that have nothing to do with Islam.
The Al-Khawarij are a group of religious outliers that are historically referred to as the first to commit heinous acts in the name Islam.
Dar al-Ifta said this method satisfies the sadism of the IS leaders who are “addicted to blood, beheadings and mutilation. They use these methods to show their strength to their followers and give a message to their enemies that this is how they will end up.”
It said the IS misinterprets the hadith to justify the killing, contending that the slaughter of enemies is an Islamic duty, whereas slaughter is of animals to eat and give to the poor.
It said the Prophet ordered a fair treatment of prisoners, such as providing them with shelter and appropriate food, and refraining from torturing or abusing them in any way. This is ordered in case of war, whereas the IS is not in a state of war, as it is killing innocent Muslims and non-Muslims that are supposed to be living safely in their home countries.
