Students in Upper Egypt do not have any means of transportation to take them to school except for tractors, which exposes them to risk and threatens to increase the number of dropouts.
Fatin Mohammed, a student in Sohag, says she walks five kilometers everyday to go to school. “The stray dogs attack us on the way,” she says.
Essam Metwally says sometimes he leaves his children at school until late in the evening because he cannot leave work to pick them up.
Jihan Mohamed, a student, says she will still continue to walk three kilometers everyday to school because education is important.
