Three injured as fire engulfs three factories in Damietta industrial zone

Three people have been injured in a fire that broke out in three factories in New Damietta City's industrial zone on Thursday evening.

The Civil Protection Forces controlled the fire and cooled the site, according to Brigadier General Mohamed Sobhi, director of the Civil Protection Agency in Damietta.

The injured, who were suffering from smoke inhalation, were transferred to Al-Azhar Hospital, he added.

The fire broke out in a factory and extended to two neighboring factories, one of which was for furniture.

Sixteen fire trucks put out the fire and many ambulances were dispatched to the scene.

Ossama Hafila, chairman of the Damietta's board of trustees , the initial estimate for losses in the factory fire exceeds LE2 million.

Sobhi said the cause of the fire was not yet clear. However, the incident follows a string of fires in the past week, some of which have been linked to allegations of arson.

On Monday, a huge fire gutted a hotel and several shops in the Attaba area of Cairo. Some shopkeepers said they suspected arsonists for starting the shop fires.

On Thursday, the headquarters of the Cairo Governorate in the Abdeen area of Cairo caught fire. According Al-Ahram newspaper, two men were arrested on suspicion of arson in connection with the blaze.
