Egypt’s Minister of Aviation Younes al-Masri opened Terminal 2 at Hurghada International Airport of the Red Sea Governorate following the completion of all development and construction works, which included increasing the terminal capacity and efficiency.
The terminal contains 11 departure gates connected to the airplanes by direct bridges, nine departure gates connected to the remote airplanes by buses, 72 reservation counters for the registration of departures and receipt of luggage, two counters for large luggage services, 18 counters to document the passports of outgoing passengers and 16 counters to document the passports of incoming passengers.
The terminal includes an automatic luggage transfer system with six conveyor belts to carry passengers’ baggage and nine electric conveyor belts to receive incoming passengers’ baggage.
In November 2017, Hurghada Airport management transferred all international departures and arrivals from Terminal 2 to the new Terminal 1 during the development and renovation phase.
The Arab Contractors Company undertook a comprehensive development process for the airport that included installing protections from rainfall in the departures and arrivals halls, implementing modern security equipment, and developing the sorting area for departure baggage.
During the inauguration of Terminal 2, Chairman of the Egyptian Airports Company Wael al-Nashar said that the costs of development works at the Hurghada International Airport totaled one billion Egyptian pounds, adding that the development works will cover the increasing number of flights to Hurghada during the summer season and will be able to serve the tourist areas near Hurghada.
Meanwhile, Minister of Tourism Rania al-Mashat asserted that Hurghada is one of the most attractive Egyptian cities for tourists.
She pointed out that several passengers use the airport to visit the cities of Hurghada, Gouna, Sahl Hasheesh, Safaga and Qosier.
