The High Elections Commission (HEC) announced on Sunday that a security force had been sent to control the situation in the Upper Egyptian governorate of Qena after rumors circulated that gunfire was exchanged between candidates' supporters to prevent voters from reaching the polling stations.
HEC spokesperson Tarek al-Kashef said the HEC received a complaint from the Qena governorate that supporters of the two candidates, Khaled Khalaf Allah and Sayed Monofi, had been exchanging gunfire on plantations there.
