Coronavirus cases in Egypt rise 469% in a month: Health Ministry

The Egyptian Ministry of Health announced that the rate of coronavirus infections increased by 469 percent until the beginning of September, compared to the beginning of August.

At the beginning of August, the ministry confirmed 49 infections, compared to 279 confirmed on Wednesday, September 1.

“The peak of the fourth wave is expected to be in October,” Adviser to the Egyptian President for Health Affairs, Mohamed Awad Tag Eddin, said in televised statements, adding that “social distancing, wearing masks, and being careful not to be in crowded places, are the safest and most effective ways to face the coronavirus.”

He explained that the fourth wave of the coronavirus in Egypt began with the detection of “Delta Plus” mutant cases, warning that the number of people infected with the fourth wave will be higher compared to the previous waves.

Infections will range in severity between mild and moderate, he said, calling on Egyptians to apply for the vaccine to contribute to limiting the spread of infection.

Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population on Wednesday reported 291 new coronavirus cases, seven deaths, and 543 recoveries.

A total of 288,732 cases have been reported in Egypt, alongside 16,743 deaths and 239,886 recoveries.
