Lebanese Energy Minister Walid Fayyad said, on Tuesday, that the agreement to import gas from Egypt will add 450 megawatts to the electrical network, which will lead to raising the electricity supply in Lebanon to between 8 and 12 hours a day, while the country suffers a severe electricity crisis.
According to the Lebanese National News Agency, Fayyad launched two projects on Tuesday: the first for the maintenance of the Arab Gas Pipeline by the Egyptian company TGS.
The second is launching the process of rehabilitating contractors and companies prepared by the consultant “Dar al-Handasah” company to build oil derivatives tanks under a contract signed between the ministry and the Russian company Rosneft.
“This project has a two-fold strategic importance: the first provides excess capacity, increases the electricity supply to approximately 8 to 12 hours, at a cost that is significantly lower than the bill we pay today, and puts Lebanon on the map of trade centers as a central country for the export of oil derivatives.” Fayyad said
He added, “as for the second part, it is related to clarifying that the type of this gas is fuel mix, and it secures the limits of eight thousand megawatts and reduces the pollution emitted by the lab.”
