Egyptian MP Reham Afifi, a member of the Senate, demanded that amendments be made to the law on financial guardianship, first issued back in the 1950s.
Afifi explained that the law of guardianship over the money of minors, which is currently in force, faces many legislative shortcomings which requires revision.
She noted that many widowed mothers suffer greatly after the death of their husbands in order to obtain the dues for their children, whether from the grandfather or the uncle.
Afifi added that she is currently preparing a discussion request addressed to Justice Minister Omar Marawan, to be submitted after the holidays, including the need to amend the financial guardianship law issued in 1952.
She stressed that the law is no longer compatible with the modern era and does not take into account the rights of women in the transfer of guardianship to her over her children in the event of the death of the husband.
Afifi explained that this shortcoming, and the resulting problems and issues are harmful to children and threaten their future.
