The government is working on simplifying the customs clearance process, and work is under way to bring about a significant shift in this respect, with a view to turning Egyptian seaports to global ones to boost trade movement, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said.
Madbouly made the remarks while chairing a meeting on Tuesday to discuss customs clearance streamlining measures at Egyptian ports, in the presence of the ministers of finance, transport, trade and industry, along with a host of senior officials from the state bodies concerned, including the Central Bank of Egypt, the General Organization for Veterinary Services, the National Food Safety Authority, the Egyptian Customs Authority, and the Maritime Transport Sector.
In a statement, Cabinet Spokesman Sameh al-Kheshen said the total value of released goods from January 1 till September 30 had amounted to $53.7 billion, while the total value of strategic commodities released within the same period reached $14.3 billion.
In addition, the total value of released production inputs stood at $24.8 billion, the spokesman added, noting that goods worth $5.9 billion had been released in September.
