The head of the National Tunnels Authority, Tarek Gawaly, revealed details behind the trial operation for five new metro stations on the third phase of the Metro Line III in Giza.
In a phone interview with journalist Eza Mustafa on the “Salahat Tahrir” program aired on Sada al-Balad channel, Gawaly said that the trial operation began from the Toufikya station to Wadi al-Nil, passing by the Arab League, then the Bulaq al-Dakrour station extended to the Cairo University station.
According to Gawaly, the five new stations that were opened for passengers now serve highly populated areas, adding, “We had maximum limits for choosing the locations of these stations, and the distance between each station is 1200 meters, so these stations are considered close to each other.”
“When taking the metro from the Engineers area to the Pyramids, this distance is covered in 20 minutes at most, which includes 20 stations,” he explained.
Gawaly said that the price of a metro ticket for nine stations is six Egyptian pounds, 16 stations for eight pounds, while the price of a ticket for 23 stations is LE12 and the price of a ticket for 34 stations or more is LE15.
As for metro subscription prices, the head of the National Tunnels Authority stated that, “Those over the age of 70 are given a free subscription, and a metro subscription is allocated to students at a reduced price.”
