Saudia Arabian energy company ACWA Power announced that it has been notified of the receipt of the commercial operation certificate for the Kom Ombo photovoltaic solar power station project with a production capacity of 200 megawatts.
The company’s notice sent on Monday to the Saudi Stock Exchange stated that the company’s share in the project is 100 percent, and the duration of the agreement for the project with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company is estimated at 25 years, with a total investment cost of 611 million Saudi riyals.
The station is located in the Kom Ombo region in Aswan Governorate in Upper Egypt, it said, anticipating the financial impact of operating the station to begin during the third quarter of 2024.
The station contains 387,465 solar panels using the latest two-phase technology, in addition to 952 electrical inverters on an area of 4.8 square kilometers to produce 200 megawatts of clean energy.
This will contribute to reducing the carbon footprint by about 280,000 tons of carbon dioxide annually.
The solar energy station is connected to the national grid through a 33/220 kV interconnection station linking the station to the West Silwa and Benban I transformer stations.
The Kom Ombo solar power station is located less than 20 kilometers from the largest solar energy plant in Africa, the Benban complex, which has a production capacity of 1,465 gigawatts.
