Al-Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed al-Tayyeb and Qatar’s Ambassador to Egypt Jassem bin Abdulrahman Al Thani discussed ways to strengthen academic and religious cooperation between Al-Azhar and Qatar on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.
Tayyeb highlighted the longstanding ties between Al-Azhar and Qatar and expressed the institution’s readiness to expand cooperation through scholarships in Islamic and Arabic studies, academic exchanges and joint research.
The talks also covered expanding cooperation between Al-Azhar University and Qatari universities, as well as training Qatari imams and preachers at Al-Azhar’s international academy for imam and preacher training.
The Qatari ambassador welcomed closer cooperation with Al-Azhar, praising Tayyeb’s efforts to promote the upright Islamic teachings, brotherhood and peaceful coexistence.
