Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has, yet again, stressed the hazardous situation in the occupied Palestinian territories due to Israel’s practices that violate international humanitarian law, particularly in the Gaza Strip.
Israel has also been violating all its agreements with the Palestinian side in the West Bank, Abdelatty said during a session organized by the World Peace Council (WPC) in New York on the Middle East.
He held Israel responsible for the tensed situation in the Middle East, failing to respond to ceasefire efforts led by the mediators.
The situation in the Gaza Strip has become unbearable and this entails doubled international relief efforts to handle the unprecedented destruction caused by the occupation forces, let alone casualties that exceeded 40,000 martyrs, Abdelatty said.
A settlement to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict constitutes a pillar of security and stability in the region, the foreign minister said, reiterating Egypt’s support for the lawful rights of the Palestinian people to self-determination and to establish their independent state on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
