Irrigation Minister Praises Tunisia’s Important Role In AWARe

Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sweilem praised important role of Tunisia within the Action on Water Adaptation and Resilience (AWARe) as it participated in training programs held under the umbrella of the initiative.

During a meeting on Wednesday 27/11/2024 between the minister of irrigation and the Tunisian Minister of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries Ezz Eddine Ben Sheikh, on the sidelines of the activities of the sixteenth session of the Arab Ministerial Water Council, held in Jordan, the two sides discussed exchange expertise in the field of treating and reusing agricultural wastewater, along with transferring Egyptian know-how in this field to the Tunisian side.

They also took up a number of events and activities taking place under the umbrella of the African Ministerial Council for Water (AMCAW).

Representatives of Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco and Jordan also participated in a workshop to draft a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and appoint a consultant to draft the project document “Saline Water Uses for Agriculture” during activities of the 7th Cairo Water Week.

Cooperation between the two countries in the field of supporting early warning systems for floods in the Mediterranean countries was discussed under the umbrella of the “AWARe” initiative, as it was agreed to coordinate between Egypt and Tunisia, regarding the project “Uses of salt water for agriculture” and “Supporting early warning systems for floods in the Mediterranean countries”.
