Sherine Abdel-Wahab explains dispute with her lawyer Yasser Qantoush

Egyptian singer Sherine Abdel-Wahab announced that recent reports regarding the termination of her contract with attorney Yasser Qantoush were based on a misunderstanding.

Abdel-Wahab said in a statement: “I want to clarify to my beloved fans that what happened between me and Qantoush was just a passing misunderstanding that normally happens between those close.”

She added: “Yasser is a brother and a friend, and one of the people most concerned for my well-being and keen to restore my rights with honesty and conscience. That’s why I cannot cancel my power of attorney with him.”

“Differences in opinion sometimes lead to minor disputes that we can resolve, and that is what actually happened. I just want to say that Mr. Yasser was and still my lawyer, and I have no other lawyer.”

Tensions had reportedly erupted between artist Abdel-Wahab and her lawyer, Qantoush, after the latter issued a statement urging the Minister of Culture to quickly intervene to monitor her health.

Qantoush had revealed in a statement that he was ending his role as her legal advisor.

“In light of the fallacies and unfortunate events that the artist is experiencing, and because of a person who has turned her life into hell ever since she met him, Sherine has endured a lot over the past years, despite her kindness. However, difficult circumstances continue to haunt her,” he explained.

He emphasized that he had repeatedly advised Sherine to travel and stay away from this person to protect her health, but she had refused.

Despite his success in many cases on her behalf, he noted that this current situation was beyond his scope as a lawyer.

“Out of concern for her health and life, I call on the Culture Minister to quickly intervene and contact the Health Ministry to appoint a medical committee to monitor her condition and keep her away from those seeking to destroy her psychologically and physically. My role as her legal advisor has ended, and I wish her success in the future. O God, I have conveyed the message, O God, bear witness,” Qantoush concluded.

Speaking exclusively to Al-Masry Al-Youm back in August and in response to Qantoush’s statement, Abdel-Wahab said, “From this moment, Mr. Yasser, a statement will be issued stating that you are not my lawyer.”
