Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly on Tuesday stated that several countries have resorted to a complete ban on TikTok, while others have argued that the app can still have a positive impact.
In response to a question about community security and the arrest of various TikTok influencers, Madbouly explained that the state’s current plan lies in creating a fully disciplined framework to manage the issue.
He continued: “I am not talking here about criticizing the performance of the government or state agencies, but that is more serious.”
He explained that these types of applications impact children and young people morally and can jeopardize the cohesion of the Egyptian family unit.
“One advantages of society is that it remains cohesive,” he said, explaining that it is vital that the Egyptian family remains cohesive and functioning in spite of any existing challenges, as this impacts the functioning of the state at large.
Madbouly stated that, therefore, there must be a “sensitive balance” regarding what can be banned, whether completely or partially, and what can be permitted.
