CAIRO, Sept 22 (MENA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Badr Abdelatty said that the security of the Gulf region is an inseparable part of Egypt’s national security, expressing strong condemnation of Israel’s act of aggression against the State of Qatar.
Speaking during a meeting with Jasem Al-Budaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, Abdelatty denounced the attack on Qatar as a blatant violation of international law and the principles of respect for state sovereignty, according to a press release issued in Cairo Monday.
The minister praised the vital role played by the GCC in advancing joint Arab action and welcomed the growing institutional ties between Egypt and the Council. He highlighted the significance of the memorandum of understanding on political consultations signed in February 2022 and the adoption of the Joint Action Plan 2024–2028 in Riyadh in March 2024.
The top diplomat emphasized the importance of the political consultation mechanism between Egypt and the GCC, especially in light of escalating regional challenges, including the Palestinian issue and ongoing crises in Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, and Sudan, as well as developments related to Iran’s nuclear program.
The meeting also addressed ways to deepen economic cooperation between Egypt and the GCC countries, in preparation for the first Egypt-Gulf Trade and Investment Forum. The event, expected to see high-level participation from governments and the private sector, aims to promote a qualitative leap in economic integration between the two sides.
