Egypt’s Mufti urges global action on Palestinian rights on solidarity day

Egypt’s Mufti Nazir Ayyad, the head of the General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide, said on Saturday 29/11/2025 that the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People should serve as a moral call to the global community to confront the suffering endured by Palestinians under Israel’s blockade and repeated attacks.

In a statement marking the annual observance on November 29, Ayyad said the day should remind the world of its responsibility toward a people “burdened by hardship” and living under conditions that have turned their struggle into “a living testimony to humanity’s urgent need for a just balance that does not bend to power nor abandon the oppressed.”

Ayyad emphasized that genuine solidarity cannot be measured by slogans alone, but by the international community’s ability to overcome “double standards” that distort justice and deepened the wounds of civilians. He said silence in the face of crimes against Palestinians amounts to complicity that prolongs their suffering. Any discussion of real peace, he added, is meaningless without restoring Palestinians’ rights, ending injustices, and ensuring full sovereignty over their land.

He called for transforming the day from a symbolic occasion into a global stance that reaffirms shared humanity and translates principles into effective policies. Ayyad urged all parties to safeguard the security and dignity of civilians and to help open a path toward a future worthy of Palestinians’ sacrifices and resilience.
