UK firm to build $2.4 billion recycling and fuel plant in Egypt

In an effort to boost environmental sustainability and industrial development, the Egyptian government has formally reviewed a major investment proposal from the UK-based Polar Hydro Company.

The company is seeking to inject US$2.4 billion into the Egyptian market to establish a large-scale facility in Giza under the Private Free Zones system.

The proposed plant is designed to recycle solid household waste into fuel and bio-fertilizers, with production earmarked for both meeting local market demands and export to Europe.

The project received strong backing during the thirty-fifth meeting of the Ministerial Group for Industrial Development, chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, Kamel al-Wazir.

The minister emphasized the multifaceted benefits of the venture, asserting that the project will contribute to the safe disposal of waste within the Giza Governorate, create employment opportunities, and generate valuable products from previously discarded materials.

He directed all concerned agencies to provide comprehensive support to Polar Hydro to expedite necessary procedures and commence construction of the factory as soon as possible.

Consequently, an immediate meeting was scheduled between the Governor of Giza, the CEO of the Waste Management Regulatory Authority, and specialists from the General Authority for Industrial Development, alongside company officials.

This accelerated timeline aims to finalize the comprehensive study for presentation at the Ministerial Group’s next session.
