PM follows up on upgrades at road network leading to Alex. Airport

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly affirmed, Tuesday, Dec, 2, 2025, the state’s commitment to implementing a modern, high-efficiency road network.

He explained that such efforts are exerted by the state as part of the national roads project, which aims to connect the country’s road system with its social and economic development plans and establish new, integrated urban communities that support comprehensive development nationwide.

The premier’s remarks came during a meeting held Tuesday to review progress on the development and upgrading of roads leading to Alexandria International Airport. The meeting was attended by Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities Sherif al-Sherbiny, head of the Central Agency for Reconstruction Mahmoud Nassar, and Vice Chairman of the new urban communities authority for utilities Ahmed Omran.

During the meeting, the housing minister highlighted the importance of the road network serving both Alexandria International Airport and the North Coast, as part of the state’s broader vision to develop the North Coast as a strategic development axis rather than merely a seasonal tourist destination.

Sherbiny shed light on the progress in implementing the western arc of Omar Suleiman Axis in Borg El Arab area. The 21-kilometer project, which includes several major structures, is being carried out as part of a comprehensive plan to enhance Alexandria’s main road network and to continue the ministry’s development efforts, particularly projects carried out by the Central Agency for Reconstruction.

The project’s completion rates range from 47 percent to 50 percent across its three sectors, which include several major bridges. The upgraded network is expected to ease traffic, divert North Coast vehicles away from central Alexandria, and improve access to key development zones.
