
CAIRO, Feb 13 (MENA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty expressed Egypt’s aspiration to expand trade and investment with the Central African Republic (CAR) during his meeting with Central African Republic Foreign Minister Sylvie Baïpo-Temon on Friday.
He underlined opportunities in energy, transport, construction, and pharmaceutical industries, highlighting the potential contribution to the economic development of both countries.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the African Union Summit.
Abdelatty congratulated Baïpo-Temon on the re-election of President Faustin-Archange Touadéra, praising the country’s successful electoral process and President Touadéra’s efforts to restore security and stability, including programs to disarm rebel groups and strengthen state authority.
He underscored Egypt’s significant and active role in the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA), noting that Egyptian forces play a key role in maintaining peace and security.
He also welcomed plans to deepen bilateral cooperation in priority sectors for both countries.
The minister reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to capacity-building in African countries, noting that the Egyptian Agency for Partnership for Development gives priority to the participation of Central African Republic personnel in its training programs.
Regarding Sudan, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s consistent support for Sudan’s unity, territorial integrity, and the protection of its national institutions.
He condemned any attempts to divide the country or undermine its sovereignty and stressed the importance of a comprehensive ceasefire and an inclusive, Sudan-led political process to advance stability and reconstruction.
This stance was reflected in the statement issued after the Ministerial Session of the Peace and Security Council under Egypt’s presidency, he added.
The meeting also focused on measures to strengthen the efficiency and effectiveness of African Union institutions.
Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s support for institutional reforms designed to enhance efficiency and effectiveness, making it clear that such reforms should be inclusive.
The two ministers agreed to continue coordination and consultation in regional and international forums to promote mutual interests and strengthen stability in Africa. (MENA)
