Heavy rain and thunderstorms forecast for Cairo and Sinai on Thursday

The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) released its weather forecast for Thursday, April 2, which indicates a high probability of moderate to heavy rainfall starting in the early hours of the day and continuing through the morning.

Impacted areas include scattered regions across Greater Cairo, Lower Egypt, the Canal Cities, the Northeastern Coast, North and Central Sinai, and the Gulf of Suez.

The EMA added that these rain showers may include a 30 percent probability of isolated thunderstorms, tapering off to light rain during the afternoon hours.

Additionally, moderate rainfall is expected over parts of Central and Upper Egypt, as well as the Southern Red Sea mountain ranges. Residents are advised to remain cautious of sudden temperature changes and the nature of cloud formations over these specific regions.

The report also warned of active wind patterns, with speeds ranging between 30-40 km/h across the Northeastern Coast, South Sinai, Northern Upper Egypt, and the Red Sea Governorate.

Furthermore, the EMA issued a significant warning regarding phenomena associated with thunder clouds.

This includes the potential for localized flooding in certain areas, lightning strikes, and intense “downdrafts”—strong, sudden wind activity descending from the base of the clouds.
