Banks in Egypt to close from June 18 to 21

The Central Bank of Egypt announced that all banks operating in Egypt will be closed on Thursday, June 18 on the occasion of the Islamic New Year 1448 AH.

Work will resume on Sunday morning, June 21, 2026, CBE said in a statement on Thursday.

Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly issued a decree declaring Thursday, June 18 to be a paid public holiday for the Islamic New Year, instead of the Gregorian date corresponding to the first day of Muharram, 1448 AH which is pending depending on the official sighting of the new moon.

The decree applies to employees of ministries, government departments, public authorities, local government units, public sector companies, and public business sector companies.

Examinations will continue as scheduled by the relevant authorities
