Up to 54 people injured at Ras Laffan explosion in Qatar

Qatar’s Ministry of Interior confirmed on Sunday evening that an explosion occurred at a factory in the Ras Laffan Industrial Area, resulting in injuries to 54 people.

No leaks posed a threat to public safety, and authorities are continuing to address the incident.

In a statement posted on the X platform, the ministry said the explosion at the Ras Laffan factory was the result of a “technical incident.”

The ministry indicated that the Qatari International Search and Rescue Group, part of the Internal Security Force, is conducting search operations in cooperation with Civil Defense teams to recover for 18 missing people.

Qatar halted operations at the world’s largest liquefied natural gas production complex during the first week of the war with Iran in February.

The Ras Laffan complex, which exported about a fifth of the world’s LNG supply last year, continued to operate at reduced capacity for more than three months due to disruptions in shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
