The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) warned that the country will face consecutive heatwaves with temperatures exceeding normal rates throughout most of summer – the year’s hottest season.
Rising humidity levels will define Egypt’s summer, the EMA explained, increasing the perceived temperature by three to four degrees.
Multiple heatwaves are expected across June, July, and August – some may last longer than usual, potentially extending up to 10 consecutive days.
Furthermore, the authority warned of incoming air masses originating from the Arabian Peninsula.
Traveling across the Mediterranean Sea, these air masses carry massive amounts of water vapor, significantly driving up humidity levels.
Conversely, while air masses arriving from Southern Europe will be milder and help temper conditions, the prevailing high humidity will continue to intensify the feeling of heat.
