Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty reiterated, Egypt’s full support for all regional and international efforts aimed at consolidating Somalia’s security and stability.
He said Egypt is committed to backing Somali state institutions and preserving the country’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, especially as Somalia’s stability represents a key pillar of security and stability in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region, as well as of regional and international peace and security.
Abdelatty made the remarks during his meeting on Friday, July 31, 2026, with Qurat-ul-Ain Sadozai, Acting Assistant Secretary General and Head of the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS), on the sidelines of the Second Extraordinary Summit of Troop-Contributing Countries to the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), held in the Ugandan capital, Kampala.
The foreign minister stressed the importance of securing sustainable funding for the African Union mission, voicing deep concern over the financial challenges facing the force.
He called on international partners and members of the UN Security Council to continue supporting the mission and ensure it has the logistical and financial resources needed to carry out its mandate effectively.
Abdelatty also underlined the need to maintain both AUSSOM and UNSOS, ensuring their continuity and adequate funding to help preserve Somalia’s security, stability, and unity.
He reaffirmed Egypt’s readiness to continue providing support to Somalia, whether through the African Union mission or bilateral cooperation, drawing on Egypt’s extensive expertise in counterterrorism, border security, and institutional capacity-building to enhance stability in Somalia and the wider region.
