Russian travelers will soon have direct air access to Egypt’s Mediterranean coast, following a decision by Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsia) to authorize direct routes to Borg El Arab and Al Alamein international airports.
The move opens up Egypt’s pristine northern coastline—traditionally a favored getaway for domestic vacationers—to a broader international audience, offering Russian tourists seamless access to Alexandria, the North Coast, and the burgeoning luxury hub of New Alamein City.
Egypt’s Foreign Ministry welcomed the decision, describing it as a key milestone in the deepening aviation and transport partnership between Cairo and Moscow.
In an official statement, the ministry noted that the new corridors will help meet rising demand for direct travel while boosting tourism and cultural exchange between the two nations.
Acting on directives from the Russian Ministry of Transport, Rosaviatsia has invited Russian carriers to apply for scheduled flight permits to both coastal gateways.
The agency confirmed it is also open to reviewing charter flight requests to serve seasonal demand. Russian authorities have formally notified the Egyptian Embassy in Moscow to coordinate with relevant aviation bodies and airlines.
The expansion marks a strategic shift beyond Egypt’s traditional Red Sea strongholds of Sharm El-Sheikh and Hurghada, positioning the Mediterranean Riviera as a premier new destination for Russian holidaymakers.
