Egyptian Ambassador in Moscow Hamdy Shaaban met on Friday, August 28, 2026, with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to discuss ways to further strengthen bilateral relations and advance the strategic partnership between Egypt and Russia.
The meeting focused on continued coordination and consultations on various regional and international issues of mutual interest, as well as efforts to deepen bilateral cooperation in a range of fields.
The two sides discussed ways to promote economic, trade and investment cooperation, along with major joint projects currently underway, particularly the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant and the Russian Industrial Zone in the Suez Canal Economic Zone.
Such projects are expected to support development efforts and advance the shared interests of both countries.
Shaaban and Lavrov also exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues of mutual concern.
Shaaban reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to continued coordination and consultations with Russia on regional and international issues, with a view to supporting efforts to promote security and stability and resolve crises through peaceful means.
He also expressed Egypt’s appreciation for the longstanding and distinguished relations between the two countries.
For his part, Lavrov underscored the importance of further developing Russian-Egyptian relations and praised the high level of cooperation and coordination between Cairo and Moscow.
He stressed Russia’s keenness to broaden the bilateral partnership and further expand cooperation in a manner that serves the common interests of the two countries and their peoples.
