Egypt's state prosecutors interrogated Wednesday those arrested during the nationwide protests staged yesterday.
State news agency MENA did not report the number of detainees held for investigations, saying only that prosecutors in al-Mahalla al-Kobra, Suez, Alexandria and Port Said are investigating a “number of rioters."
According to rights groups' reports, security forces arrested around 400 out of thousands of protesters who participated in demonstrations yesterday.
Detainees, according to MENA, are charged with organizing gatherings, resisting security authorities and damaging public and private buildings. Prosecution questioned detainees on their roles during the protests as well as crimes that allegedly resulted from the protests.
The Ministry of Interior Affairs said earlier on Wednesday that it will not permit any additional demonstrations and will take steps against the arrested.
