20 senior MB members arrested ahead of Friday protests

Early Friday morning, Egyptian Security conducted a large-scale operation and arrested 20 leaders from the Muslim Brotherhood, the banned but tolerated opposition group, from multiple cities around Egypt. The arrests came hours before the expected fourth day of protests in Cairo and other cities after Friday prayers.

In a statement to reporters, Brotherhood member Abdul-Moniem Abdul-Maksood said the arrests included leaders who work in the group’s headquarters in Cairo.

Senior members Essam al-Aryan and Mohamed Morsi were arrested along with five previous members of the Parliament and five members of the group's Supreme Guide office.
