Egypt's attorney-general banned from travel a former minister of trade and industry, Rachid Mohamed Rachid, and froze his financial assets in preparation for referring him for investigation.
The Middle East News Agency (MENA) reported that the attorney-general's decision is one of a number of precautionary measures being taken regarding certain officials reported to have abused public funds.
On Thursday the attorney-general banned other former officials from travel, including former NDP Organization Secretary Ahmed Ezz, former Interior Minister Habib al-Adly, former Housing Minister Ahmed al-Maghraby and former Minister of Tourism Zuhair Garrana.
