An Egyptian court ruled in favor of retrying Ayman Nour, founder of the Ghad Party and a potential presidential candidate, on charges that he forged membership applications for his party.
In a message on Twitter, Nour said the Court of Cassation's ruling exonerates him of charges of forgery, which he says were unfairly leveled against him.
In 2005, Nour was sentenced to five years in prison for forging membership applications for the Ghad Party to reach the minimum required number of members. He was released in February 2009.
Nour issued a request to the attorney general to allow him a retrial, saying he obtained leaked documents from the dissolved State Security apparatus that prove he is innocent.
Nour added that he obtained 100 documents that prove State Security intentionally ruined political life in Egypt.
He aims to have the indicting verdict removed from his criminal record, since Egyptian law bans people indicted in certain crimes, such as forgery, from running for president.
