An Egyptian court decided Monday to postpone an appeal submitted by the defense team of ousted President Hosni Mubarak and former Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif against the sentence of a fine for blocking communications during the January revolution.
Judicial sources told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the State Council Administrative Court decided to postpone the appeal until 21 November.
In May, the administrative court convicted Mubarak, Nazif, and former Interior Minister Habib al-Adly of the communications blackout during the revolution.
Court fined them LE540 million as compensation. However, the suspects challenged the sentence
The ruling considered cutting communication as violation of freedom of expression and communication.
It also said the country’s national security didn’t require cutting off internet and mobile phone services, which caused the state budget huge losses.
The ruling said the communication cuts cost Egypt US$90 million – $18 million per day.
