Former vice president leaves for Hajj

Egyptian ex-vice president and former intelligence chief, Omar Suleiman, has left for Saudi Arabia Tuesday to perform Hajj, or Islamic pilgrimage to the holy cities of Mecca and Medina in Saudi Arabia.

Suleiman left Cairo in a private plane from terminal 4 “accompanied by one person only,” an official source with Cairo International Airport said.

The one-time vice president entered VIP terminal 27 as security personnel attended to his safety.

The ex-intelligence chief headed to the plane minutes after entering the VIP terminal, eyewitnesses said. Sources confirmed that he was heading to Medina.
