For the first time in the Islamic World, Egypt’s Al-Azmiya Sufi Order celebrated the birthday of Aminah bint Wahb, mother of the Prophet Mohamed.
The event received heavy coverage by Iranian and Shiite satellite television channels.
“We have the honor of celebrating this occasion for the first time in the Islamic world,” said Al-Azmiya leader Sheikh Mohamed Abul Azayem, who also lashed out at the Salafist and Wahabi Islamic movements for describing the prophet’s mother as an apostate.
“I didn’t mind that the event was covered by Shiite television channels,” added Abul Azayem. “We welcome everyone.”
Egyptian professor of Islamic jurisprudence Ahmed el-Sayeh, for his part, called on all Islamic countries to celebrate the occasion.
