The Egyptian Political Parties Committee has refused a request to establish a new political party under the name “Reform and Development.”
The committee said it made its decision after reviewing three weeks ago the agenda of the party founders and details submitted by their representative, Mohamed Anwar Esmat el-Sadat.
El-Sadat told Al-Masry Al-Youm that ultimately he had expected a negative decision, although he had felt optimistic when the committee finished hearing his explanations of the party’s policies.
El-Sadat said his hope had been to unite all opposition movements through the party in lobbying for certain demands, but he does not intend to challenge the committee’s decision before the State Council.
