The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism announced Wednesday the number of Egyptian Umrah pilgrims to the Holy Land in Saudia Arabia rose to 575,000 in 2010. That figure puts Egyptian umrah pilgrimages at a 17 percent increase from the previous year.
Umrah and Hajj Pilgrimage Coordinator Osama al-Ashry told reporters that 185,000 pilgrims will perform the ritual during Ramadan, an increase of 7 percent from 2009.
Muslims traditionally perform the Umrah pilgrimage annually, with the last ten days of Ramadan typically witnessing the most pilgrimages.
