The Presidential Elections Commission received appeals on Sunday from five presidential candidates barred from participating in the race, and will examine them further on Monday.
The five candidates are former intelligence chief Omar Suleiman, General Mamdouh Qutb, Ashraf Zaki Hassan Baruma, Ibrahim al-Gharib and Ahmed Hossan Eddin Khairat Mostafa.
The commission said in a statement that it already held initial sessions on the appeals, and would make its final decisions on the five candidates Tuesday.
On Saturday, the commission also barred three other prominent candidates: Muslim Brotherhood senior adviser Khairat al-Shater, Salafi lawyer-turned-preacher Hazem Salah Abu Ismail and Ghad al-Thawra Party founder Ayman Nour.
The commission is to receive complaints until 8 pm on Tuesday, and all results will be announced by Wednesday at the latest, according to the statement.
On Sunday, the commission announced Suleiman had collected only 969 signatures from Assiut Governorate, less than the 1,000 required.
Suleiman’s campaign said the remaining signatures would be submitted to the commission, and would be dated before candidate registration ended.
