Abbasseya returns to calm after Wednesday clashes

Abbasseya was calm Thursday morning following clashes the day before between protesters and unidentified armed men near the Defense Ministry that left at least 11 dead and more than 150 injured.

The streets returned to normal as buses and other modes of transportation were again available. Pedestrians walked in the surrounding streets.

Closed over the last few days, streets in the area were re-opened to traffic and the flow to and from 6th of October Bridge returned to its normal rate.

The entrance to Caliph Mamoun Street, which leads to the sit-in area, remained closed as of Thursday morning, as protesters continue to secure the sit-in from potential attacks.

The area around the Defense Ministry was calm. More street vendors and protester tents have been erected, including those of the April 6 Youth Movement and the Youth for Freedom and Justice Movement.
