The head of Egypt’s Academy of Scientific Research and Technology has said that Egypt maintains the highest rates of research plagiarism, adding that the organization is aware of the reasons behind that fact.
The academy’s Mahmoud Saqr said that the reasons include a lack of expertise among many research authors and the lack of modern fraud detection programs.
Speaking on Monday during a workshop hosting representatives from the Scientific Research Ministry, Saqr added that the academy had recently provided editors of its 70 scientific publications with plagiarism detection programs.
He added that he now chairs an academy panel that works on providing researchers and post-graduate students with obligatory training on scientific writing, referencing and ethics. He added that the academy has supplied universities and research centers with “IThintcate”, a new plagiarism detection application that will be used before accrediting any future scientific degrees or publications.
