Revolutionary youth will participate in the parliamentary vote slated for November, said Israa Abdel Fattah, an activist from the April 6 Youth Movement.
Egyptian activists have generally criticized the government for failing to give revolutionary youth any leadership positions since the resignation of Hosni Mubarak from the presidency.
The government does not have any ministers below the age of 35, even though it has been reshuffled more than once, yet many Egyptians believe that young people played a pivotal role in forcing Mubarak to step down.
At a forum at the Ramadan Book Fair in southern Cairo, Abdel Fattah said youth from the revolution will run in the upcoming parliamentary election.
Their success or failure will be determined by Egyptians, she said, adding that the presence of different generations in parliament will be a new and useful experience.
The new parliamentary elections law – issued last month – reduced the minimum age of parliamentary candidates from 30 to 25 years.
Observers speculate that the Muslim Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party is capable of achieving an easy parliamentary majority in the election because it is believed to be the most organized political power in the Egyptian streets.
