The general committee for parliamentary elections in the Monufiya governorate, headed by Judge Sabry al-Banna, has excluded business tycoon and former dissolved National Democratic Party leader Ahmed Ezz from the candidate lists for the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Deputy head of the committee Judge Wael Omran said Ezz's candidacy was turned down in the Sadat City constituency in Monufiya, due to incomplete candidacy documents and a decision issued earlier by the top prosecutor to seize his wealth.
Ezz's lawyer, Mohamed Hammouda, announced that his client had completed all the paperwork required for his candidacy in the parliamentary elections last Thursday.
Ezz was the secretary of organization in former president Hosni Mubarak’s dissolved National Democratic Party. He stood trial for multiple charges of corruption and illicit gain since the 2011 uprising that ousted Mubarak.
He is being retried over charges of obtaining illegal licenses for his steel factories.
